Dr Aly Virani about the new W&H OSI Compass: “A fully integrated surgical system”
Dr Aly Virani recently visited the W&H headquarters, where he had the opportunity to experience the new W&H Oral Surgery Compass and its associated devices firsthand. In this interview, he shares his initial impressions.

The Oral Surgery Compass provides a practical guide through every step in oral surgery and implantology – from diagnosis and treatment to final documentation. It illustrates how each W&H device contributes to the treatment process and how the medical devices work seamlessly together.
Dr Virani, what is your first impression of the W&H Oral Surgery Compass?
Virani: It’s truly a pleasure being here and seeing all of this, and I have to say I’m genuinely surprised. I was expecting a “facelift,” but what I encountered goes far beyond that: the W&H Oral Surgery Compass is a fully integrated surgical system.
What impresses me most is that we can now image our patients and transfer planning information directly to the devices. Everything that happens during surgery with the new Implantmed Plus II is recorded and automatically stored. This not only saves a significant amount of time but also integrates the workflow seamlessly.
The cloud-based storage of all this data is particularly valuable. As a surgeon, being able to access and review data at any time is remarkable. I expected merely a more appealing design and handling, however, this system exceeds expectations and truly enhances practice efficiency.
So, if a colleague asked you for a recommendation, what benefits would you highlight?
Virani: It’s interesting because many of the values of the new system align with the values W&H has always stood for. Two of the main reasons we have worked with W&H over the years are the top quality of the hygiene devices and the long service life of the equipment. Sustainability is also very important for us.
Noteworthy at this stage is the quality of data and ease of use. It’s not just about the modular Implantmed Plus II, but also about the integrated imaging and cloud-based data management. This integration benefits the entire practice team – from sterilization to data recording. It is making workflows more efficient and giving us more time to focus on patient care.
Thank you, Dr Virani. Is there anything else you would like to add?
Virani: From my perspective, this system shows how technical capabilities can be translated into real-world benefits. It combines the proven quality of W&H with modern digital solutions, enhancing workflow efficiency, team coordination, and patient care. This is more than just technology – it’s a complete solution for the modern dental practice.
Thank you very much for your time and insights, Dr Virani.
